BATON ROUGE, La.—BREC’s Baton Rouge Zoo invites the community to celebrate the holidays with ZooLights – a festive evening mile-long trail through the Zoo featuring more than 50 illuminated display sculptures of animals and traditional holiday spectacles. The holiday tradition, presented by Children’s Hospital New Orleans, begins November 27 continuing through December 30 — closed Christmas Eve & Christmas Day. Admission gates open nightly 5:30pm-8pm, grounds close at 9pm.

Visitors can enjoy special festive activities offered by Children’s Hospital New Orleans every Friday, Saturday & Sunday night during the event. These will involve holiday masks, snowflake wands and a seasonal coloring station for the kids.

“Children’s Hospital New Orleans is proud to present the 2020 BREC’s Baton Rouge Zoo ZooLights,” said John R. Nickens IV, President and CEO of Children’s Hospital New Orleans. “It is our privilege to provide specialized pediatric healthcare for the children and families of Baton Rouge year-round. This holiday season we’re excited to help bring families together to celebrate the holidays, with a safe and fun ZooLights experience.”

For the third year, the Zoo will again be partnering with The Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank. Every guest presenting a non-perishable food item during the hours of Zoolights, will receive a 50% discount from the regular admission price. All food donations will go directly to the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank. In 2019, nearly 4,000 pounds of food were collected during this drive.

Mike Manning, President and CEO of the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank said, “We truly appreciate the Zoo’s willingness to bring the joy of food to tables in the Baton Rouge area while sharing the joyful holiday experience of ZooLights.”

“Zoolights is a remarkable holiday tradition for the Baton Rouge community. Joining with Children’s Hospital of New Orleans & The Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank to provide joy and provisions during the season of giving, makes perfect sense,” said Phil Frost, Zoo Director. “The Zoo is all about families and we encourage our guests to give back and get back this holiday season through this ideal partnership.”

During each evening, the Safari Post Gift Shop and Flamingo Café will remain open & feature special holiday treats and gift options.
